What to include

If you are writing about a specific article, the page title and the section heading help enormously. If you are asking a craft question, three facts change almost every answer we could give: what camera and lens you are using, what the light source in the room actually is, and how far the subject is standing from it. A photograph of the setup — not just the resulting picture — is worth several paragraphs of description.

Corrections

If we have got something wrong, we want to know. Send us the passage and, where you can, a source. Verified corrections are made to the article itself rather than tucked away in a note at the bottom of the page, so that the next person to read it gets the corrected version.

Suggestions for future guides

We keep a running list of subjects readers have asked for. Requests that describe a concrete situation you got stuck in are far more useful to us than broad topics — "how do I photograph someone in a dark restaurant" produces a better article than "lighting tips".

What we cannot help with

• Repairing, servicing, valuing or authenticating camera equipment.
• Recovering images from a damaged, corrupted or formatted memory card.
• Individual image critiques or portfolio reviews — we are a small desk and cannot do this fairly at any useful volume.
• Legal questions about model releases, property releases, permits or copyright. Please speak to a qualified professional in your own jurisdiction.
• Reviewing, promoting or linking to products in exchange for payment.
